Your order filled partly: what happens to the rest?

Time in force controls what happens to an unfilled quantity. GTC can leave it waiting, IOC cancels the remainder, and FOK requires the whole quantity immediately. Check the final order status before submitting a replacement.

One book, three instructions
Bybit documents GTC, IOC and FOK for its limit orders. In brief: GTC can keep an unfilled remainder working; IOC cancels what cannot execute immediately; FOK requires immediate full execution or cancels the order. Availability and implementation should be checked for the actual product.
Imagine an unchanged book offering three units at 40 USDT and four at 41 USDT. You submit a buy for five units with a limit of 40 USDT. Assume no competing orders or other restrictions. This is an original simplified example, not a live quote.

The immediate purchase under GTC or IOC costs 3 × 40 = 120 USDT before fees. The four units offered at 41 cannot satisfy your 40 limit. The displayed total order value of 200 USDT is not evidence that you spent 200.
Read two records together
Use the order record for requested quantity, remaining quantity and status. Use individual fills for executed quantity and price. An order may produce several fills, so counting history rows is not the same as counting orders. The order book explanation describes displayed bid and ask levels; those levels can change before your instruction arrives.
Suppose you replace the original five-unit GTC order without confirming cancellation. If its remaining two units later fill and the new five-unit order also fills, your total becomes ten units, including the first three. If your target is still five, the outstanding need after those first fills is only two.
A replacement checklist
Record the original order ID. Confirm whether cancellation completed, then refresh the fill history because an execution may have occurred while cancellation was being processed. Recalculate the unmet quantity from confirmed fills, not from the initial request. Review the replacement limit and validity separately.
FOK does not reserve liquidity; IOC does not guarantee any fill; GTC does not guarantee eventual completion. These settings express different execution constraints, not different levels of profitability. For fee classification after a fill, read maker and taker fees.
