Before sending crypto: a transfer checklist

Before moving crypto between an exchange and a wallet, prepare the receiving side first. Open its current deposit or receive instructions and keep them beside the sending screen. This checklist is for reviewing a transfer, not for choosing an asset to buy.

Match the destination details

Confirm the exact asset and a network supported by both the sender and recipient.
Copy the address from the current receiving screen, then compare the complete pasted address with the original.
Read any deposit restrictions or service notices before proceeding.

Kraken's deposit instructions show why asset and network selection belong together. A familiar token name alone is insufficient confirmation.

Check whether a memo or tag is required

The receiving platform determines whether you need an additional memo or destination tag. Copy it exactly when required; do not invent a value or assume the address is enough. See Coinbase's memo and tag explanation.

Review the amount and fees

Check the sender's withdrawal minimum, recipient's deposit minimum, displayed fees, and expected amount received. Make sure fee deductions will not leave the deposit below its minimum. Kraken's minimums page advises checking the current account screen because requirements can change.

Treat a test as one check

A small test transfer may help confirm the destination details, provided it meets applicable minimums and you accept the extra fees. Wait for the receiving account to credit it. Success does not guarantee a later transfer will succeed: review every field again before sending more, especially if anything changed.

Keep a record and investigate delays

Save the transaction ID, network, amount, and time. Compare the sending status, blockchain confirmations, and receiving account status. Kraken's transfer guide explains transaction tracking. If something is wrong, contact official support with those details before repeating the transfer. Whether cancellation or recovery is possible depends on the transaction and platform; neither outcome is guaranteed.
